"Riverside Croesus" - My Collection

Riverside Croesus Tankard, circa 1897
Croesus was made by Riverside Glass Works, ca. 1897-1919, in crystal, "Imperial Emerald" (plain or gilt) & "Royal Purple" (plain or gilt). Pieces made
include water pitcher & tumbler set, 4 piece table set, berry set (2 master berry sizes 7" & 8"), toothpick, lg. vinegar cruet, sm. oil cruet,
breakfast creamer and sugar, indiv. creamer, jelly compote, high-stand compotes, covered mustard, custard cup, salt dips,
salt & pepper shakers, 2 finger lamps, nappies & plates, celery,
and syrup (C.W. Gorham, 1995).
Croesus is a pattern you either love or hate...there's not much room for feelings in between. A bold
new pattern in its day, it was described to be "like nothing seen before" amongst the glass trade journals and had a very
sucessful production life at Riverside Glass Works. It still
is a very unique pattern after over 100 years.
Croesus reproductions appeared prior to 1974. They were found in
the 4 piece table set and toothpick holder, and made in the original
colors and were not marked. In 1977 and later, tumblers appeared in sapphire, amber and green.
They were taller than originals and marked with
a "V" by the Summit Art Glass Co.(Jenks & Luna 1993). I have attempted to put together a detailed discussion on Croesus reproductions
in another section of this web site. CLICK HERE to go to discussion page...
Below are examples of my current Croesus collection. I have collected only the
"Imperial Emerald" and "Royal Purple" colors because that is all I have found.
